Escrima Program
Escrima is an essential part of advanced training in the International Academy of WingChun (IAW). Thus, Escrima Classes are scheduled regularly at in various locations. Without knowledge of weapons, the Practician Grade and the Technician Grades cannot be achieved. The attainment of these high ranks of WingChun requires a corresponding ability to wield simple weapons.
In IAW Escrima, you deploy functional weapons from diverse cultures. Starting with the simple stick, lessons progress to the machete and various types of swords. Work with knives, shields and even the long pole and double knives is also incorporated. Going further, you brandish the tonfa, palmstick and unusual weapons such as the battle axe.
Our way is the unconditional avoidance of degenerating a weapons art into mere sport. You waste no time with competitions nor spectator events. Such misappropriation is the opposite of what we teach in our Groups and Academies. The purpose of practice is learning the pragmatic use of a certain weapon or combinations thereof. A context of and connection to reality, which students must never lose sight of, is indispensable.
This strict approach protects you from injury, optimizes your physical training and cultivates a vital respect — not only for other students, but for the weapons themselves.
